Best-case scenario for Mets on Sunday

The Mets drubbed the Phillies 17-0 while both the Giants and Cardinals lost close games later in the day, allowing New York to once again move a game ahead in the wild-card standings.

More turbulence ahead for the Jets?

New York is 1-2 and the slate is awfully tough in the next four weeks, including visits to Pittsburgh and Arizona. Two meetings with the Tom Brady-led Patriots await in the final six weeks of the season.

Rookie safety Darian Thompson (foot) should be fine. It's not the dreaded Lisfranc injury. Should be back in couple weeks. Giants missed him. Allowed 4 plays of 20+ after none in first two weeks.

The Giants riding their front four hard. Not sure this is sustainable. JPP played 100% defensive snaps, Olivier Vernon 90%, Johnathan Hankins 87%, Damon Harrison 61%.

The Giants running back snaps: Shane Vereen 36, Orleans Darkwa 21, Bobby Rainey 8. Vereen's usage spiked slightly with Rashad Jennings sidelined. So did his touches (16). Would've probably been more if not for fumble.

Some historic lows for Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets: The first QB with six INTs and no TD passes since 1989 (Tom Tupa, Cards). Three red-zone INTs in a span of five attempts; had three in previous 192 attempts, dating to 2012. Eight turnovers tied for the second-most in team history, the most since 1976. Jets defensive snap count (based on 63): LB -- Lee 63, Harris 63, Jo. Jenkins 30, Mauldin 17; DB -- Gilchrist 63, Skrine 60, Revis 58, Pryor 55, Williams 34, Miles 7, Burris 5, Allen 4; DL -- Wilkerson 62, Williams 57, Richardson 53, McLendon 41, Jenkins 11, Simon 6, Thomas 4. A full day for Lee, as the No. 1 pick replaced the injured Erin Henderson and started in the base. Jordan Jenkins made his NFL debut, bumping Mike Catapano (healthy scratch). Burris made his pro debut on defense.

Mets farmhand Josh Zeid tossed three no-hit relief innings and Israel advanced to next March's World Baseball Classic with a 9-1 win against Great Britain on Sunday in Brooklyn. Former major leaguer Jason Marquis opened the game with four no-hit innings. Ike Davis went 0-for-3.

On injury front: After the game saw DRC (groin) limping badly in locker room. Didn't look all that promising.
