Amid the rush of emotions when he was drafted, Jets S Jamal Adams quickly focused on perhaps his biggest challenge -- the Patriots, namely TE Rob Gronkowski. "As soon as I got drafted, that's one of the first people I thought about, as well as the GOAT, Tom Brady," he told reporters Friday. "I have tremendous respect for those guys and that organization."

Here's a quick way the Giants can utilize rookie tight end Evan Engram in the passing game. This is the "Levels" concept with Brandon Marshall aligned outside (Z) and Engram (Y) flexed in the slot. Engram has the ability to create leverage vs. a safety in coverage and separate at the top of the route on an inside breaking cut. A high-percentage, two-level read for QB Eli Manning to move the sticks in third down situations.

Jets first-round pick Jamal Adams said he was motivated by critics who said his 40 time at the combine (4.56) was average. He trained extra hard for his pro day, lowering his time to 4.33.

Interesting possibility for the Jets: After picking TE David Njoku, the Browns have informed Gary Barnidge he will be released, according to the NFL Network. The Jets are hurting at tight end. They're only vet is Austin Seferian-Jenkins, but he's not even a lock to make the team. Barnidge made the Pro Bowl in 2015 and made 55 receptions last year on a bad Cleveland team. On the downside, he's 31 and the Jets have been trying to get younger.

ESPN's Jon Gruden positively gushed about Jamal Adams to the Jets. He called the former LSU safety the No. 1 player in the draft, adding, "I love the fact that he's going to the Big Apple. He reminds me of some of my favorite safeties – the Ronnie Lotts, the Rodney Harrisons. He's a wrecking machine, he's versatile, he can play in the post, he's a great one-on-one tackler. He's an inspiring leader and a quality person. This is a huge pick for the Jets." Sounds like Gruden is a fan.

Let's put the Jets' selection of Jamal Adams into historical perspective. He's only the ninth safety to be chosen in the top six since the merger in 1970, according to Pro Football Reference. It last happened in 2010, when the Chiefs picked Eric Berry at five. Safety is a historically weak position for the Jets. Only one in the last 27 years has made a Pro Bowl -- LaRon Landry (2012), per PFR.
