Believes Eli still can play 4. Ideal world would like to see all young players (including Davis Webb) but it's Steve Spagnuolo's decision 5. Handled himself real well and can see him being a quality public face for the franchise

Yanks lose four minor leaguers in Rule 5 draft

The Yankees had four players taken in the Rule 5 draft Wednesday, while the O's picked three. The Tigers picked D-Backs outfielder Victor Reyes No. 1; LHP/OF Anthony Gose was picked by the Astros, from the Rangers system; and the Royals made two trades.

New Jets QB Bryce Petty believes he's been "trending upward" the last two years, but he's not looking at Sunday as an individual audition. He's thinking about team goals. He said his goal is to play well "for these guys in the locker room, it's for Josh (McCown). He set a standard as to how to be a professional, how to be a quarterback." McCown underwent surgery Tuesday on his fractured left hand.

The Jets have a one-week roster waiver for Jeremy Kerley, who is eligible to return after a four-game PED suspension. Coach Todd Bowles said they will make a decision "pretty soon" on Kerley's status. Kerley was at the facility on Wednesday.

Newest Met Anthony Swarzak had a 2.33 ERA in 70 appearances in 2017. He'll bolster a Mets bullpen that ranked in the bottom 3 in ERA, WHIP and opponents' OPS in 2017. Swarzak got off to a hot start- 19 2/3 innings with 0 earned runs and 4 hits allowed through May 15. He had a 3.12 ERA and 1.28 WHIP the rest of the season.

Here is Yankees GM Brian Cashman's latest update on where he stands on moves: "We are accessing all opportunities and see if we can land a plane," Cashman said. "Right now, we are circling the airport. We are waiting for clearance on the runway.That is not from ownership. That means that we've got the signal that it is a safe landing spot, that we are comfortable with it, excited by that. We have enough gas in that tank that we can keep circling for awhile."
