Manny Machado caused a bit of a stir on social media when he "liked" a photo of himself on Instagram wearing a Yankees uniform. But Machado, the biggest name on the block ahead of this year's trade deadline, called it "a mistake" and said he's "liked" similar photos of himself in various other uniforms, too, as he's scrolled through his feed.

Lifelong Yankees fan Todd Plourde won the right to name his son "Bryce" after beating his wife at mini golf (she wanted "Avery"). Six years later, the Wallingford, CT resident - who made the six-hour drive to DC to take in the All-Star festivities with his boy - isn't spooked by his favorite player's first-half slump. "Oh my god yeah," says Plourde when asked if he'd like to see Bryce Harper sign with New York this winter. "Yankee Stadium is built for him. He'll hit 60 home runs there. Just gotta find a position for him. I'd put him at first base."

Troy Williams' salary wasn't fully guaranteed. A portion ($100,000) would have been guaranteed on Aug. 1. Another portion ($100,000) would have been guaranteed if Williams made the Opening Night roster.

Surprisingly, the Knicks announce they've waived Troy Williams. They had to waive or trade a player before Opening Night to satisfy NBA roster rules. This brings them to 15 players under NBA contracts. Williams seemed to play well at times in Summer League.

Machado trade chips dominate Futures Game

Before Manny Machado arrived for the All-Star Game, the Futures Game on Sunday was a who's who of prospects bandied about in trade talks for the Orioles shortstop and others expected to be moved before the July 31 non-waiver deadline.

Mets fans, meet your potential first baseman of the future: Peter Alonso belts a towering fly ball out to left field and stands and watches it for a few moments. Hopefully, this won't turn into an international incident. Alonso has 21 homers between Double-A and Triple-A, but has hit just .190 at Las Vegas in 23 games since his promotion. Still, he may be the power hitter that Dom Smith may never turn into.
