Report: Yankees won't lose pick

In what would essentially eliminate the Yankees from signing free agent Rafael Soriano, general manager Brian Cashman said he will not relinquish his first-round pick for any remaining free agent.

"I will not lose our No. 1 draft pick," Cashman said, according to the Westchester Journal News. "I would have for Cliff Lee. I will not lose our No. 1 draft choice for anyone else."

If the Yankees were to sign Soriano to be their setup man, he would cost them their No. 1 pick because he is a Type-A free agent.

Soriano's agent, Scott Boras, said that the right-hander would be willing to set up for Yankees closer Mariano Rivera. Cashman has not publicly stated his feelings on Soriano.

Meanwhile, Andy Pettitte remains undecided about retirement.

If Soriano is out of the picture, then Joba Chamberlain and David Robertson remain the leading candidates to pitch the eighth inning for the Yankees.
