Plans are in the works for an official Dominican winter league game to be played at Citi Field.
Tigres del Licey and Leones del Escogido are scheduled to face off Nov. 13 in the first-ever winter league contest to be held in New York, which contains the largest number of Dominicans outside the Dominican Republic.
"We have the date and the stadium, but now we are sending permit applications to the Commissioner's office and the Caribbean Baseball Confederation," said Fernando Ravelo, general manager of Licey. "We don't see any problems with that."
Licey and Escogido, which share Estadio Quisqueya in Santo Domingo, are considered "eternal rivals" in the league.
The Dominican season is scheduled to start Oct. 14 with three games. The Dominican champion will host the Caribbean Series, to be held in the first week of February at Estadio Quisqueya against the winter champions of Mexico, Puerto Rico and Venezuela.
