The New York Mets have officially agreed to terms on a contract with first-round pick Gavin Cecchini, the team announced Friday.
The Mets selected Cecchini with the 12th overall pick in the 2012 amateur draft.
The 18-year-old shortstop's signing bonus is worth $2.3 million, according to multiple reports, which is $250,000 under the slot for the No. 12 overall pick.
Cecchini will report to Port St. Lucie, Fla., for mini-camp starting Monday, then join rookie-ball Kingsport when the team opens its schedule on June 19.
Cecchini, a right-handed batter, hit .413 with seven home runs, 32 RBIs and 31 stolen bases for Barbe High School in Lake Charles, La., as a senior.
