Nick Swisher may be out Sunday

WASHINGTON -- New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher suffered a deep contusion of his left thigh on a play at home plate in the sixth inning of Saturday's game against the Nationals, and may not be available for the series finale Sunday afternoon.

"He has a bone bruise in his quad," manager Joe Girardi said. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow when he gets here. He's going to be pretty sore."

Swisher, who did not appear in the postgame clubhouse after the Yankees' 5-3 victory in 14 innings at Nationals Park, suffered the injury sliding home on Robinson Cano's double. It appeared that his left thigh got pinned under the shinguard of Nats catcher Jesus Flores as he slid into home plate.

Swisher, who is batting .262, had been on base all three times up prior to the injury, doubling, singling and drawing a walk off Nationals starter Jordan Zimmermann. If Swisher can't play on Sunday, Andruw Jones is likely to replace him in right field.
