The Jets recently re-signed Santonio Holmes to a new five-year contract worth about $50 million, and are closing in on a deal with their free agent cornerback Antonio Cromartie, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The Jets signed former Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress to a one-year deal on Sunday, as well as backup quarterback Mark Brunell, punter Chris Bryan, and defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis.
Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez had offered to rework his contract as well, if it meant the team would be able to sign big-time players.
"Absolutely, and my agent's already talked to me about it," Sanchez said last week. "Whatever we need to do to win, it's on."
Tomlinson is entering the final season of his two-year contract with the Jets. He is expected to be more of the third-down back with more of the carries going to Shonn Greene. The offense is planning to give Greene more than 300 carries this season.
