Report: MetLife gets naming rights

MetLife has secured the naming rights to New Meadowlands Stadium.

The $1.6 billion facility now will be called MetLife Stadium, according to a report in the New York Post.

The deal with the insurance company for the naming rights to the year-old facility could be worth as much as $20 million a year for 20 years, according to the report. The deal is expected to be announced as early as next week in midtown Manhattan.

Neither MetLife nor the owners of the Jets and Giants would comment to the Post on the deal.

The report said MetLife had been trying to hash out the naming rights deal since last year, but the unstable economy held up the talks.
