Plaxico Burress, Joe McKnight sit

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Wide receiver Plaxico Burress, kick returner Joe McKnight and safety Brodney Pool were not in uniform for New York Jets practice, but coach Rex Ryan is not ruling out his defensive back.

"Brodney played almost the entire game last week," Ryan said of the injury, which Pool revealed was a sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee.

Pool's absence would hurt the Jets substitution packages against the Patriots, and while he said he was fine, Ryan said he was the least likely of the three to play.

Burress dealt with a stiff lower back and was questionable last week before catching a team-high five passes for 79 yards in New York's 27-11 win at Buffalo last Sunday. He was in sweats while the team practiced Wednesday.

McKnight was dealing with a toe injury. He leads the NFL by averaging 40.2 yards per kickoff return.

Defensive end Mike DeVito, who missed two games with a knee injury, and tight end Dustin Keller and running back Shonn Greene, who suffered head injuries at Buffalo, participated in the padded practice.

Defensive tackle Marcus Dixon was limited with a shoulder injury, along with linebacker Josh Mauga (lower back).
