"Eric Smith goes up to knock a ball down comes down on his leg, luckily it's just a sprained knee but I think Eric is probably going to miss this week with it," Ryan said. "I'll be honest I thought it was going to be much worse than that."
Smith missed Week 1 with a left hip/knee injury, but played in every game since and was in a season-high 23 plays in the Monday night loss to the Texans.
The team has sustained a rash of injuries -- including losing star cornerback Darrelle Revis and top wide receiver Santonio Holmes for the season -- and Ryan confirmed that defensive tackle Kenrick Ellis will likely miss four to six weeks with an MCL injury.
Ellis went out of the Houston game with the injury. Ryan also expressed doubt that defensive tackle Sione Po'uha would be sufficiently recovered from his low back injury to play against the Colts.
"There's no doubt we're a little beat up," Ryan said.
Mangold left the Texans game briefly but returned with his right ankle wrapped. Considering how the team struggled last season when Mangold had a high ankle sprain on the same leg, it seems the Jets dodged at least one significant injury.
Hill, who has shown flashes of speed and talent at the depleted receiver spot, has missed two full games with a hamstring injury.
