Wooden was a confidant of former general manager Mike Tannenbaum, who was fired after the season and replaced by John Idzik.
Idzik has begun the process of surrounding himself with his own hires. After the draft, the team parted ways with assistant director of college scouting Michael Davis and area scout Joe Bommarito. Their contracts weren't renewed. Like Wooden, they were with the organization for more than a dozen years.
Area scout Kevin Kelly is following Wooden to San Diego. He was named the Chargers' director of college scouting.
In Wooden's case, the move represents a promotion. Wooden, who had one year remaining on his contract, was the Jets' assistant director of player personnel for seven years. He joined the organization as a scout in 1997, the same year Tannenbaum arrived under Bill Parcells.
In San Diego, Wooden will work under new GM Tom Telesco. He replaces Jimmy Raye, who left for the Indianapolis Colts after losing out to Telesco for the GM job.
