Monarchs get past Sting in overtime

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Yolanda Griffith had 23 points and 16
rebounds as the Sacramento Monarchs beat Charlotte 85-82 in
overtime on Sunday, extending the Sting's losing streak to a
franchise-record seven games.

Tangela Smith scored 16 points for Sacramento. Ticha Penicheiro
added 12 points, Kedra Holland-Corn scored 11 and Ruthie
Bolton-Holifield 10.

Andrea Stinson scored 24 points for Charlotte, which has lost
three of its last five games in overtime. Allison Feaster scored 17
and Tammy Sutton-Brown had 15 for the Sting, who are off to the
worst start in franchise history at 1-10.

Charlotte rallied from an eight-point deficit in the second half
and took a 72-70 lead on a 3-pointer by Feaster with 22 seconds

Griffith was fouled and hit a pair of free throws to tie the
game at 72 with 11 seconds remaining.

Charlotte failed to get a shot off at the end of regulation when
Stinson threw a pass out of bounds, sending the game to overtime.

Griffith hit a layup and Edna Campell added a 3-pointer as
Sacramento scored the first five points in overtime.

The Monarchs maintained at least a five-point lead until Stinson
hit a 3-pointer with one second left in the extra period.
