Magic sign both draft picks to deals

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Magic on Wednesday
announced the signing of rookies Steven Hunter and Jeryl
Sasser.

Terms of the deals were not disclosed.

The 7-foot Hunter was the 15th overall pick in June's
draft. He averaged 11.4 points and 5.6 rebounds while blocking
72 shots during his sophomore season for DePaul and was a big
reason why the Blue Demons floundered. He led DePaul in scoring
only three times with a season high of 21 points.

Despite his size, Hunter never displayed an overpowering
presence in college, although his 59 percent shooting was
relatively impressive.

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Sasser was the first point guard taken
(22nd overall) in the draft. He is Southern Methodist's
all-time leading scorer with 1,992 points and was a four-time
all-Western Athletic Conference performer.

As a senior, Sasser led SMU in scoring (17.0), rebounds
(8.3) and assists (4.2). He also was the second sophomore in
conference history to be named Western Athletic Conference
Player of the Year, joining current New Jersey Net Keith Van
Horn.
