Girondins Bordeaux, Monaco tie

PARIS -- A goalless draw left Girondins
Bordeaux and Monaco in the bottom half of the French first
division Sunday.

Monaco are 15th in the 18-club division with six points, while
11th-placed Bordeaux have just one point more. RC Lens head the
table with 17 points. Sedan and Olympique Marseille were due to
play later Sunday.

Both teams started cautiously and Bordeaux had the best
chance of the half in the 44th minute when Monaco goalkeeper
Flavio Roma saved a close-range shot from Brazilian striker
Christian.

In the second half, Bordeaux stepped a gear but a strong
performance by Roma denied Christian, Pedro Pauleta and Vikash
Dhorasoo.

Bordeaux had the lion's share of possession in the last 10
minutes but could not break the deadlock.

Two minutes from time, Monaco missed a scoring opportunity
on a quick counter-attack when a powerful shot by striker
Souleymane Camara was blocked by defender David Sommeil.

On Saturday, RC Lens edged ahead of AJ Auxerre at the top of
the table but defending champions Nantes stayed bottom after
their fifth defeat in seven games.

Lens eased to a 3-0 victory at home to Sochaux and, with
five wins and two draws, they lead the standings on goal
difference from Auxerre who won 1-0 away to Bastia.

Olympique Lyon are third, one point behind, after a crushing
Nantes 4-1, while Lille, who beat Troyes 1-0 away, are fourth on
15 points.

A late Nicolas Anelka goal earned Paris St Germain a 1-1
draw against promoted Lorient. were, who drew 1-1 away to
promoted Lorient. PSG are fifth in the standings with 11 points.
