Jets coach Todd Bowles explained his curious clock management at the end of the first half, when he passed up a chance to have a meaningful possession. Bowles said QB Josh McCown was "pretty banged up" at the time and he just wanted to get to halftime. That's why he didn't use a timeout, opting to let Denver milk the clock before a FG. Bowles also said, "At the rate we were playing, we needed to go in and regroup."

Jets' McCown (hand) to miss rest of season

The best season in Josh McCown's long, circuitous career came to a premature end Monday when the Jets announced their quarterback will miss the final three games with a fractured left hand.

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

Jets QB Josh McCown will have surgery on his fractured left hand and will miss the last three games, the team announced. Bryce Petty is the new starter, Christian Hackenberg is the No. 2 and an emergency arm could be added this week. Just when you thought the Jets could make it through an entire season without a quarterback calamity ...

Jeter: Stanton trade affords Marlins 'flexibility to build our organization' (0:54)

It's standing room only as the Yankees officially welcome Giancarlo Stanton to the club.

“So little in return? You mean, in terms, of quantity?” Derek Jeter said when asked about receiving Starlin Castro and two Single-A players for Giancarlo Stanton. “We have people in place whose job is to know about talent and I think they would disagree with you. We think we got some good prospects in return and now it is up to us as an organization to help develop them. You are right, it is the National League Most Valuable player, I don't care what prospects you get back, they won't be household names for our fan base.”

So the Jets have dropped six of their last eight, their unofficial team MVP (Josh McCown) could be done for the year and now they have to go on the road again to face the Saints. Worried about the team getting demoralized? "No, not at all," Steve McLendon said. "Why would we worry about the team falling apart or anything like that?"

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

Jets C Wes Johnson said Josh McCown became the team leader on the first day of OTAs in the spring, when he organized a players-only practice. Now McCown (fractured left hand) could be lost for the final three games. Said Johnson: "I have all the confidence in the world in Bryce (Petty) ... I'm not worried about him at all. I'm actually excited for the opportunity he could get."

Andrew Marchand ESPN Senior Writer

Marlins COO Derek Jeter on how he handled the Giancarlo Stanton trade talks: “There is not anything I would've done differently throughout this process,” Jeter said. Jeter added the deal gives the Marlins "flexibility" and that he felt that Stanton did not want to be part of a rebuild.

Trade grades: Did Yankees ace Giancarlo Stanton deal?

With the most imposing middle of the order in the league, the expectation is now World Series or bust for New York. And while fans won't like that Derek Jeter dealt to his former team, that doesn't mean he failed his first test.
