If the Giants draft Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick, he'll need to be one of the league's very best running backs right away to justify his compensation. If drafted at that spot, Barkley would be the fourth-highest-paid running back in terms of average annual value (AAV), according to draft slot contract information from By comparison, Bradley Chubb would be the 21st-highest-paid defensive end in terms of AAV, and a quarterback at that No. 2 spot would be the 25th-highest-paid QB assuming the Browns select a quarterback first overall.

In terms of the Yankees' current manifestation of the the middle of the order, Aaron Boone smiled and said: "I like how it looks right now. I like the feel of it." This is the lineup that features Didi Gregorius No. 3, Giancarlo Stanton No. 4. Boone isn't sure if this is why it seems his players 1-9 have had more quality at-bats of late, but he does like what he's seen out of this order.

Aaron Boone wants to get through tonight's game before putting anything in stone, but with a Yankees day game coming Thursday after Wednesday's night game, his current plan is for Austin Romine to catch Sonny Gray tomorrow. Gary Sanchez will catch Thursday.

Former C Nick Mangold said goodbye to football on Tuesday, signing a one-day contract and retiring a Jet. At a news conference, he told reporters he didn't miss football last season as much as he expected. "That's when I knew I'm in a good spot," said Mangold, who sat out 2017 after being cut by the Jets. Former teammates D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Willie Colon, Brandon Moore and Ryan Fitzpatrick attended. So did John Schmitt, the center on the Super Bowl III team.

A promising sign for the Yankees' outfield this afternoon. OF Billy McKinney, who went on the disabled list April 1, is out taking a few fly balls and ground balls several hours before tonight's game. He suffered a left shoulder sprain when he crashed hard into the outfield wall at Toronto in the season's opening series. Slowly but surely this banged-up Yankees team is getting healthier.

Caps close it out

The good news? The Capitals are on to the next round. The bad news? They'll play the Penguins. Plus, the Leafs and Bruins are headed for a Game 7!

Giants open minicamp today. Expectation is that Odell Beckham Jr. will be there although not practicing as he continues to rehab, per sources. Ereck Flowers ... less optimism.

Jets daily draft nugget: No team has traded up into the top five more than the Jets — four times in the common-draft era (since 1967). None of the three previous picks (Mark Sanchez, Dewayne Robertson and Lam Jones) made a single Pro Bowl. The Jets also are part of another trend. Since 2013, only nine of the 12 first-round quarterbacks were taken with picks acquired via trade. The exceptions: Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota and Blake Bortles.
