The Jets will honor the late Dennis Byrd before Sunday's game at home. There will be a video tribute before the opening kickoff and a moment of silence. Members of Byrd's immediate family will be on the field as honorary captains. His closest former teammates, Paul Frase, Scott Mersereau and Marvin Washington, will be on hand for the tribute. Byrd, 50, was killed last Saturday in a car accident in Oklahoma.

NFL statement on Giants kicker Josh Brown says "In light of the release of these documents yesterday, we will thoroughly review the additional information and determine next steps in the context of the NFL Personal Conduct Policy. We will not be making any comments on potential discipline until that time."

The Josh Brown revelations today demonstrate the difficulty the NFL has in quickly assessing domestic violence allegations and meting out appropriate discipline. As the NFL said in its August statement, Brown's ex-wife did not cooperate with the league investigation and local law enforcement did not provide information that would corroborate reports of additional incidents. Police made the information available Wednesday for the first time. Should the league have waited until then to discipline, allowing Brown to play unpunished in the meantime? Should it have indefinitely suspended Brown until all the facts were in? No perfect answers here.

Ravens WR Steve Smith calls out Giants K Josh Brown

The Giants' revelation today -- that they hadn't seen PK Josh Brown's journal entries, emails and other evidence of prior domestic violence -- is really important. It provides a legal opening for them and/or the NFL to re-address his status with the team and league beyond the one-game suspension he has already served.

Jets OC Chan Gailey said new QB Geno Smith has "a lot of talent." Gailey said he's not concerned about Smith's history of turnovers because that history didn't happen on his watch. Gailey believes he can add some wrinkles to the game plan because of Smith's skill set.
