Winning in the NFL is hard, and no one knows that better than Jets QB Josh McCown. Before yesterday, he had lost 27 of 29 games, going back to his two seasons with the Browns. He hopes yesterday can be a confidence builder for the Jets. "With this group, as young as we are, it was important for us to get that first win," he said today. "I was in a situation in Cleveland where it dragged out for some time." He meant last season, when they started 0-14 and finished 1-15.

Jets injury update: X-rays for RB Matt Forte (toe), LB Josh Martin (ankle) and WR Charone Peake (ankle) came back negative, according to coach Todd Bowles. He provided no prognosis for each player. RG Brian Winters (abdomen), who didn't play yesterday, said he's feeling better, per Bowles. But he wouldn't speculate on his availability this week.

Several Jets players traced the roots of yesterday's win to halftime of their Week 2 loss to the Raiders. The Jets lost by 25 points after trailing by 11 at halftime in Oakland, but "there was a different type of energy" in the locker room, Leonard Williams said today. "That same passion has been with us since."

Jets TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who dropped about 32 pounds in the offseason, said today, "It's like playing in a whole different body." In his season debut yesterday, he caught five passes and played in 48 of 63 snaps on offense. He also was pleased with his improvement as a run blocker.

With two home runs today (so far), Aaron Judge is now the first rookie in MLB history to hit 50 homers in a single season.

OBJ says dog TD celebration related to Trump

A day after saying 'I'm a dog, so I acted like a dog' to explain his touchdown celebration where he simulated urinating on the field, Odell Beckham Jr. changed his tune on social media, now suggesting it was related to President Trump's comments.

Knicks GM Steve Mills on Carmelo Anthony: "He is a tremendous person off the court... I had the opportunity I think three years going to Puerto Rico with Carmelo and I can see how much that community means to him as a person….With that in mind we decided to donate $100,000 to his hurricane relief project because we know it's important to him and we want to thank him for everything he's done for us."

Joakim Noah is looking to bounce back in Year 2 with with the Knicks: "I'm in a position where I had a really rough year last year, I'm coming off injuries. And I just want to redeem myself for myself more than anybody else. Just come back and look I got paid a lot money to be here and I just want to be at peace with that."

Silver linings for 1-2 teams

No team wants to start 0-2, but the Saints, Bears, Colts and Jets each bounced back with a win in Week 3. Since the playoff field expanded to 12 in 1990, 24 percent of teams to start 1-2 have made the postseason, while just three teams (2 percent) to start 0-3 have done so.

Tough to dig out of 0-3 hole

The 49ers, Bengals, Browns, Chargers and Giants each fell to 0-3 this week, putting a serious dent in their playoff hopes. Since the playoff field expanded to 12 in 1990, only three teams (2 percent) that started 0-3 have reached the postseason. ESPN's FPI currently gives all five teams less than a 5 percent chance at a playoff berth.

Besides tying Mark McGwire's rookie record for home runs (49) today, Aaron Judge is now a .301/.438/.863 hitter in September, his 12 homers in the month his best in any single month this year. He has also lowered his strikeout rate to 27.1 percent in September, which bodes well for him heading into the postseason (as well as 2018, for his fantasy owners).

DE Olivier Vernon has an ankle, per McAdoo. Not exactly expansive there. Also RB Orleans Darkwa is still getting checked.

Ben McAdoo says little more than "we should be talking about the way he played" and that he ‪doesn't want to be kicking off at the 20-yard line in regards to Odell Beckham's celebration.
