Landing top pick won't help rebuilding Nets

Despite having won five of its past 10 games, Brooklyn is still the favorite to land the No. 1 pick in June. However, the Nets will be sending that pick to the Celtics. The NBA draft lottery takes place on May 16.

Jets GM says he might add rookie to QB mix

While saying it's "highly unlikely" they will add another veteran quarterback, Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan didn't rule out the possibility of adding a rookie to his stable of arms.

Manager Terry Collins said there's "a good chance" backup Rene Rivera -- not presumed starter Travis d'Arnaud -- will catch Noah Syndergaard on opening day. Syndergaard and d'Arnaud have struggled to control the running game.

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan declined to say if they will exercise the fifth-year option for former first-round S Calvin Pryor. His play regressed last season after a promising 2015, and the team likely won't pick up the option, which would be about $7 million in 2018 salary (guaranteed for injury only).

Charles Oakley is upset that Patrick Ewing didn't call him or speak out after Oakley was removed from MSG last month. "I'm hurting because he didn't call in and show love because I had his back for 10 years," Oakley said, according to TMZ Sports, pointing out that Michael Jordan got involved in an attempt to broker peace between Oakley and Knicks owner James Dolan. "You should have been the first one who said something about what happened in The Garden. Should have been the first one." Ewing and Oakley played together for 10 seasons in New York.

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan said it's "highly unlikely" they will add another veteran QB, but he didn't rule out drafting one. He declined to say if McCown will go into camp as the starter -- he deferred to Todd Bowles -- but, "I still think he has some good football left in him." Reading between the lines, it sounds like Christian Hackenberg will get a chance to compete for the job.

Mets ace Noah Syndergaard looked very good in six innings of work vs. the Astros today. He allowed one run, four hits, zero walks and struck out five. Only blemish was allowing four Houston steals, an issue that has plagued him in the past.

Johnathan Hankins is an unrestricted free agent. That gives him some say in his situation. Most players get that once or twice in a career, if they're lucky. At this point, his choices are (a) take one of the offers he doesn't like or (b) wait for one he does. It's march 24 – nearly two months before NFL teams begin their offseason programs. What's the rush? Hankins believes, based on his performance, that he should get a multi-year deal at a certain salary level, and he's right. His problem is that the defensive tackle market isn't supporting his expectations, as guys like Bennie Logan and Dontari Poe have had to settle for one-year deals. But put yourself in his situation. With no real deadline to decide, would you be in a rush to accept the salary and contract terms the lever-pullers in your chosen profession have decided makes sense for you? Or would you stay true to your belief in yourself and your talents, and continue to try to get what you think you're worth? I'm sure there are people reading this who fall into either category, but I personally think it's admirable in some respects for Hankins to put himself in the latter one.

Michigan DL Ryan Glasgow said he met with the Saints, Ravens and Giants. The Eagles are coming in to meet with him Monday. He will go to local pro day with the Bears and met with Colts today.
