Before and after talking to reporters, Derrick Rose said he had to go to catch a flight to Chicago. A Knicks spokesperson said Rose was joking and was not flying to Chicago. Rose missed a game against New Orleans on Jan. 9 when he went to Chicago for a family issue but did not tell the Knicks. He was fined by the team.

Derrick Rose spoke with Jeff Hornacek and Steve Mills after practice and said he holds no grudges toward the Knicks for having trade talks with Minnesota involving the point guard. "We didn't talk about any of that to tell you the truth," Rose said. "I hadn't received no calls about it. I am going to be professional about the situation, I know what it is. There are no grudges and no hard feelings about what was going on, if I was on the trading block or whatever. I know it is part of it. I want to be here. That is how I feel and he told me that I was alright."

Lefty Jon Niese said he accepted a minor league deal with the Yankees because he thought it was his best chance to make a big league roster. He thinks there are opportunities in the bullpen and the rotation. He had no major league contract offers.

ESPN Stats and Information

New Yankees minor-league acquisition Jonathon Niese doesn't have much experience versus AL teams. He has a 4.01 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 187 games against NL opponents and a 4.62 ERA with a 1.55 WHIP in 24 games against AL foes.

ESPN Stats and Information

The Yankees signed Jonathon Niese to a minor-league contract. Niese won 61 games in his time with the Mets. Three pitchers have won at least 50 games with the Mets AND won a game with the Yankees - Dwight Gooden, Al Leiter and David Cone. Bob Ojeda is the other Mets 50-game winner to pitch for the Yankees, but he didn't win a game for them.

The Yankees have a minor league deal with Jon Niese, pending his physical, a source confirms. Niese was 8-7 with a 5.50 ERA last year. He will be an extra arm in camp with an outside chance to make the rotation. The New York Post first mentioned the signing.
