Let's put the Jets' selection of Jamal Adams into historical perspective. He's only the ninth safety to be chosen in the top six since the merger in 1970, according to Pro Football Reference. It last happened in 2010, when the Chiefs picked Eric Berry at five. Safety is a historically weak position for the Jets. Only one in the last 27 years has made a Pro Bowl -- LaRon Landry (2012), per PFR.

The comp being used for Evan Engram: Jordan Reed but even faster. Ran 4.42 at combine. "Nobody expects a guy to run a 4.42," VP of player evaluation Marc Ross explained.

The Giants added a whole lot of speed in Round 1 with Ole Miss TE Evan Engram. The 6-foot-3, 234-pounder blazed a 4.42 40-yard dash at the combine, easily the best among tight ends and one-tenth faster than new wideout Brandon Marshall's time in 2006.

Jerry Reese said Giants didn't try to trade for O.J. Howard. He won't talk more about other players other than Engram.

One of the Giants' biggest problems last year was a lack of reliable options beyond Odell Beckham in the passing game. Evan Engram is a dynamic addition to go with Brandon Marshall and a second-year Sterling Shepard. Won't help the run game or the pass protection, but if the line holds up, Eli Manning will have a lot of fun target options.

How Masahiro Tanaka won: 65% ground ball rate (17 ground balls out of 26 balls in play). That's his 4th-highest in a game since the start of last season, which wouldn't be notable but for this ... 3 of the 4 have come at Fenway Park. His putaway pitch was his splitter. Red Sox were 0-for-11 with 3 K and 8 ground balls vs the pitch.

Evan Engram gives the Giants an underneath matchup player with the speed to get up the seam. Similar to the skill set of Jordan Reed, Engram has the route running talent and formation flexibility to align in multiple spots. He can be a weapon for Eli Manning.

The Giants take TE Evan Engram (Ole Miss). He's a dynamic receiving tight end. Should add new dimension to offense.

In addition to football ability, the Jets were impressed by Jamal Adams' leadership and other intangibles. That can't be understated. Their locker room was dysfunctional at times last season, lacking strong leaders – especially on defense. "We knew he was an Alpha dog coming in because that's how he played at LSU," coach Todd Bowles said. "In the culture we're trying to create, he's perfect for our building with the things he brings to the table."
