The Jets have claimed LB Arthur Brown off waivers from the Jaguars and waived/injured Julian Stanford. He suffered an ankle injury on Monday night and didn't practice today.

Jets QB Ryan Fitzpatrick didn't want to comment on how Todd Bowles botched the execution of the quarterback change. Fitzpatrick and Bowles met this morning. Bowles explained the demotion. "I want to be out there playing," Fitzpatrick told ESPN.com. "I'm a competitor, I want to play, but that's the decision they made. Now my role is to help Bryce (Petty) as much as I can."

LeBron James, who averages 28.5 career points per game and has two triple-doubles at Madison Square Garden, came off the court after warmup not too long ago pouring sweat, looking focused and rapping along to Jay Z's '99 Problems.' Looks and sound like a problem for the Knicks, who won't have Derrick Rose (back).

There is a leak in the corridor at MSG directly in front of the spot where Tyronn Lue will do his pregame press availability. Hence the trash can. Insert joke here.

Jeff Hornacek says he thinks there are times when Carmelo holds the ball too long but there are times when he carries the Knicks, as he did last night. "There's a fine balance." He said Carmelo has more leeway than other players in this regard.

The Jets' injury report is lengthy -- 10 players didn't practice. C Nick Mangold is in a walking boot and unlikely to play. Newly re-signed Khiry Robinson still is a recovering from a broken leg, but he's not that far away, per Todd Bowles. When healthy, Robinson could return punts and kickoffs.

The Mets' 40-man roster is full, and Sandy Alderson acknowledged the Mets have no intention of selecting a player in Thursday's Rule 5 draft -- at least in the major league phase. The Mets were reviewing potential selections for the Triple-A phase, which doesn't require the player being at the MLB level.

Sandy Alderson all but acknowledged the Mets' payroll would go DOWN from where it is now, which he estimated at about $150 million. That's because the outfielder the Mets subtract, making $13 million to $15 million, probably won't be fully reinvested in the bullpen. Alderson said the primary motivation, though, is not decreasing the payroll. It's more about having an outfield that has pieces that fit better playing-time-wise. The Mets, right now, are heavy in corner outfielders at the expense of center fielders.
