Eli Apple with the new look. Cut the locks. He said guys have been getting on him already, slapping his head a lot. Had this look when Ohio St. won national championship though.

Just saw D.J. Fluker walk into the building from a distance. Looks good. Heard he dropped 35 pounds and is at 339, lowest since his rookie year.

Trades for hitters who would make immediate impact

Yes, pitchers are in the spotlight this trade deadline. But adding 10 runs on offense is just as valuable as subtracting 10 runs on defense, so players such as Jay Bruce, Alex Avila and Zack Cozart could improve certain contenders' lineups.

Toms River, NJ's Todd Frazier said his first Yankee home run was special, but he did what he always does as he rounded the bases. He thought about his cousin, who passed away at a young age. He always tips his cap before he hits home plate in honor of her. Before he reaches the dugout, he points to his family in the stands.

Claiming Lucky Whitehead on waivers was a sound, no-risk move for the Jets. Where's the downside? He's young (25), cheap ($615,000) and fast, which means he fits the profile of the "new" Jets. Oh, yes, he also fills two needs -- punt and kickoff returner. The recent publicity from his ouster with the Cowboys will blow over in a couple of days. Maybe he'll make the team, maybe he won't. It's worth a shot.

The Yankees beat the Reds, 9-5, as ace Luis Severino pitched a strong seven innings, while Didi Gregorius and Todd Frazier hit home runs. The Yankees have won three in a row for the first time since the middle of June. Aaron Judge did not play.

Didi Gregorius has homered in three-straight games for the first time in his career. Gregorius has 16 homers on the season.
