New York Teams

Since fantasy owners seem concerned and have asked, no, I'm not adjusting the top-5 ranking overall or by position for Giants WR Odell Beckham because his sprained ankle could cost him a week or two of the regular season. Beckham has never produced much in past Septembers anyway. Still has had dominant seasons. Elite fantasy option.

For the second straight day, Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty received the majority of the Jets' QB reps, ahead of Josh McCown. The breakdown: Hackenberg 19, Petty 15 and McCown nine. They did a two-minute drill walk through at the end, and McCown took those reps. This is a strange competition.

Notable No. 2 at practice: Brett Jones snuck in a few first-team snaps at right guard. Interesting. John Jerry remained the primary starting RG.

Ben McAdoo didn't have much to add on Odell Beckham Jr. He has an ankle injury and is day to day.

Notable at practice: WR Roger Lewis had a huge day with the first-team offense. He caught at least a handful of passes, including several deep downfield.

WRs Odell Beckham (ankle) and Brandon Marshall (shoulder) were among those that didn't practice. Beckham wasn't even outside.

The back left line of warmups is usually occupied by Brandon Marshall and Odell Beckham. Today by Bundy (86) and Germany (2). Marshall on sideline. Don't see OBJ.

The Jets begin team drills and QB Josh McCown is with the starters, not running gassers on his own.

The Jets have released WR Marquess Wilson, their most accomplished receiver (based on career yardage). Wilson had missed camp time with a hip injury and was down on the depth chart. They signed rookie TE Brandon Barnes (Alabama State).

Giants waive WR Darius Powe and Andrew Turzilli and OL Michael Bowie and Corin Brooks. GM Jerry Reese says in statement team will let process play out and determine whether there is another opportunity for Bowie, who was charged with domestic abuse. The Giants signed WR Marquis Bundy and C.J. Germany and OL Richard Levy and Matt Rotherman.

Jets RB Matt Forte, who returned after missing three weeks of practice with a pulled hamstring, explains the importance of getting preseason action. He hopes to play Saturday and says there's "no doubt" he will be ready for Week 1. His son, Matt, has a reporter's tape recorder as he listens to dad.

Two weeks after ripping former Jets teammate Brandon Marshall, Sheldon Richardson was a man of few words today when asked about facing Marshall on Saturday in the annual Jets-Giants game. No doubt, he was instructed to avoid commenting on Marshall, who has a shoulder injury.

Re: Michael Bowie -- The Giants are still working through the details. McAdoo needs more information from the other side of the building before Bowie can return. Bowie was charged with domestic abuse. His agent said after a thorough investigation there was never any physical contact, doesn't understand why district attorney is moving forward with case.

Jets injury update: RB Matt Forte (hamstring) participated in team drills for the first time since July 31, albeit on a limited basis. He said he hopes to play Saturday and he's confident he'll be ready for Week 1. This isn't as severe as last summer's hamstring injury, which he said involved a tear and required an injection. CB Morris Claiborne (shoulder), TE Jordan Leggett (foot) and LB Darron Lee (illness) sat out, but the injuries aren't believed to be serious. DL Anthony Johnson (stinger) also didn't practice.

Jordan Raanan ESPN Staff Writer

Ben McAdoo: Odell Beckham "has an ankle" injury. They'll see how he does in treatment. Brandon Marshall's X-ray negative.

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

If you arrived from outer space and landed at today's Jets practice, you'd draw this conclusion about their quarterback situation: They have no clue as to who will start. Christian Hackenberg and Bryce Petty split the first-team reps, with presumptive starter Josh McCown barely getting on the field. This looks like a Hackenberg vs. Petty day. Enough experimenting; it's time to settle on a lineup.

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

Some developments at Jets camp: RB Matt Forte (hamstring) is taking part in team drills for the first time since July 31. Mind you, this isn't a live practice; it's game plan-related so far. Also, all three quarterbacks have taken reps with the first-team offense. Notably not practicing: CB Morris Claiborne (undisclosed reason).

Jets RB Matt Forte, who hasn't participated in team drills since July 31 because of a pulled hamstring, is running routes in positional drills. The sense I get is that he'll be ready for Week 1.

Jordan Raanan ESPN Staff Writer

Plan is for Odell Beckham to undergo further tests on his ankle in a bit. There remains reason for optimism.

Jordan Raanan ESPN Staff Writer

Ben McAdoo said "if he can play, he'll play" on future preseason game for Beckham. Considering Giants basically play again in 4 days, seems highly unlikely.

Jordan Raanan ESPN Staff Writer

The positives from Giants 10-6 loss to Browns were the defense and FG kickers. The negatives were the offense and injuries.

Jordan Raanan ESPN Staff Writer

On another note: Brandon Marshall getting x-rays on shoulder and Michael Hunter out with concussion.

Jordan Raanan ESPN Staff Writer

Giants say x-rays on Odell Beckham Jr. were negative. He will be reevaluated in New York. It's being called an ankle sprain. Huge sigh of relief.

Odell Beckham back on sideline but not in uniform. Another positive sign.
