After saying yesterday he might play Geno Smith on Thursday against the Eagles, Jets coach Todd Bowles said today he'll go with Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg. Smith won't play, after all. This would seem to indicate Smith has locked up the No. 2 job. Bowles on the four-man QB race: "All four are good football players. We can keep all four. It's just a matter of battling with the other positions, so that's still up for grabs. We'll have to wait until after this game to see how that plays out."

The victorious Maine-Endwell (N.Y.) Little League team will be honored at Citi Field before Wednesday's Mets game. The team beat South Korea, 2-1, on Sunday to win the Little League World Series. It's the first New York team to win since Staten Island's Mid-Island league did so in 1964.

Why Eli Apple might struggle early

Field Yates doesn't doubt Apple's talent, but he thinks it might take some time to shine through. First and foremost, he might have a tough time getting on the field. Insiders roundtable

Great games happen in late August

Take the Marlins-Mets game, for example. Jose Fernandez set a new franchise record for strikeouts in a season, but the big moment came when Yoenis Cespedes hit the second walk-off homer of his career to lead New York to a pivotal win. What we learned Monday

Carmelo Anthony is still pretty popular among the younger generation. Anthony ranked tied for second in a rookie survey from NBA.com that posed the following question: "Who is your favorite player in the league?" Anthony, LeBron James and Russell Westbrook all received 9.4 percent of the vote. Kevin Durant (29.7 percent) was the runaway winner. Stephen Curry surprisingly finished outside of the Top 10.
