Pat Shurmur uses the phrase "it's business" several times on the Odell Beckham Jr. trade. Thinks the perception that relationship was poor is inaccurate. Shurmur has reached out to Beckham since the trade but has not heard back yet. Expects they will connect eventually.

In his latest mock draft, ESPN's Mel Kiper, Jr, picks OLB Josh Allen for the Jets. This, of course, happens with Kyler Murray (Cards) and Nick Bosa (49ers) off the board. In Kiper's previous mock, he had Bosa-Allen-Quinnen Williams as the top 3. Murray's rise, which started gaining momentum at the combine, has changed the landscape. Kiper's updated pick for the Jets jibes with the buzz I heard from NFL folks at last week's Kentucky pro day. No doubt, Allen would fill the Jets' biggest need.

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan, speaking to reporters at the NFL meetings, reiterated his interest in trading down in the draft. "I won't say we're committed to doing that, but we'd be intrigued," he said. One league source told me Maccagnan is on a mission to recoup his second-round pick (see: 2018 trade with Colts). He said he's had some feelers from teams interested in the third pick, but no concrete offers. Maccagnan said he won't trade up ... He was evasive on the future of LB Darron Lee, saying, "I think that will work itself out over time." Maccagnan said he likes the ILB position (C.J. Mosley, Avery Williamson, Neville Hewitt and Lee), yet he was non-committal when asked if he will try to trade Lee. Translation: He will try.

Aaron Hicks (back) spoke with Aaron Boone before tonight's game and told him he was feeling good. "Feel like it's out of there now," Boone said. Hicks still isn't participating in baseball activities, but he did some core strengthening exercises today. Boone wasn't quite sure what his next steps might be.
