The Giants were dreadful running the ball in 2016, with both the backs and the blockers to blame. Look for them to address both issues in this week's draft.

The Jets have waived five players: RB Brandon Burks, WR Darius Jennings, LS Josh Latham, LB Jeff Luc and DL Julien Obioha. This puts the roster at 76, which gives them 14 openings for draft picks and undrafted free agents.

Some late draft buzz on the Jets: Hearing that Ohio State S Malik Hooker is very much in play with the sixth pick, per source. They also like LSU S Jamal Adams, but he may not last to six. The interest in safeties may explain why the Jets have been non-committal on whether they will exercise the fifth-year option for S Calvin Pryor. The deadline is next Wednesday. Hooker is recovering from off-season hip and hernia surgeries, but there doesn't appear to be any concern.

One of the Jets' Day 3 draft picks will be announced from FDNY EMS Station 26 in the Bronx, where the late Yadira Arroyo worked until last month. She was killed on the job when she was run over by a man who stole her ambulance. Her five sons, ranging in ages from 8 to 23, will participate in announcing the pick. MTA police officer Daniel McDade, who stopped the alleged killer, also will be on hand. A nice gesture by the Jets and the NFL.

The Jets' pass defense struggled mightily last season, even with Darrelle Revis occupying one of the corner spots. The Jets could target a safety such as Jamal Adams or Malik Hooker in the first round of the draft to help boost the secondary.

Former Jets Joe Klecko and Brandon Moore will announce the team's second- and third-round picks, respectively, from the NFL draft in Philadelphia. It's a homecoming for Klecko, who was born in Chester, Pa., and attended Temple. This is the 40th anniversary of the 1977 draft, which produced Ring-of-Honor members Klecko and Wesley Walker.
