Yankees starter Sonny Gray spent part of this week working on a small mechanical tweak that was intended to help prevent him from overthinking between pitches. It seemed to work in an efficient, 10-pitch first inning. But it didn't work much beyond that Friday. He was pulled in the fourth after having thrown 73 pitches. Gray finished the night having allowed five runs and walking four. He induced just two whiffs on 25 swings. It was the second-fewest swing-and-miss total of his career. He also didn't strikeout a batter for the second time in his career.

Giancarlo Stanton has been slowly putting it together at Yankee Stadium this week. After going hitless in the two-game series vs. Miami early this week, he now has two hits in two games against Toronto this week. His third-inning two-run homer Friday was the surest sign that he's easing out of his home slump. The blast with a 110-mph exit velocity went out to right field. When Stanton headed back out to play in RF the next half inning, he got a loud ovation from the fans out there.
