How big of a rut has Jacob deGrom fallen into? His outing Wednesday marked the first time in franchise history that a Mets pitcher allowed a dozen hits in consecutive appearances, and the first time in deGrom's career he has allowed double-digit hits in consecutive starts. DeGrom was charged with five runs on 12 hits in 4 2/3 innings against the Cardinals.

With the Marlins acquiring Jeff Francoeur, it's worth noting this about the Mets: Team officials are not expecting to make any acquisitions the remainder of this month. They did put in a claim on a reliever earlier this month, but did not win the claim. You may recall the Mets acquired Addison Reed in August 2015.

Is Bartolo Colon a Hall of Famer?

Hall of Fame voters are tough on electing starting pitchers -- and the different way starters are used today doesn't exactly clear things up. With a Cy Young and 48.7 WAR to his name, could Colon make the cut? Schoenfield: Future standards for HOF pitchers

Jay Bruce departed Wednesday's game in the top of the second inning with the escort of a trainer. Bruce had legged out a double and was removed for a pinch runner later in the frame. The Mets did not immediately announce the nature of the injury.

Jay Bruce just left the Mets-Cardinals game after a bloop double to left. Guessing injury related, but I'm sure we'll hear more soon.

Mark Teixeira wasn't surprised the Mariners intentionally walked Gary Sanchez twice to get to him. Teixeira pointed out he is hitting .197 and that Sanchez is hitting everything a mile. "Shoot, if Babe Ruth is hitting behind him you intentionally walk him," Teixeira said. "I mean he is as hot as any player I have played with in my entire career. You just don't see guys doing what he is doing. I don't care how old he is."

For the second time today, the Mariners have shown rookie sensation Gary Sanchez the ultimate respect. In the ninth, Seattle chose to intentionally walk Sanchez to load the bases with no outs and the Yankees up four runs. In the seventh, Seattle intentionally walked Sanchez to put runners on first and second for Mark Teixeira. Teixeira knocked an RBI single then. In the ninth, he struck out.

Is CC Sabathia a Hall of Famer?

Sabathia's credentials may fall short of traditional standards, but those are likely to change given the way starting pitchers are used today, David Schoenfield writes. With a Cy Young and 55.9 WAR to his name, Sabathia could make the cut. Future standards for HOF pitchers

Jets injury update: Rookie OLB Jordan Jenkins, a potential starter, is "day-to-day or week-to-week" with a calf injury, per Todd Bowles. Sounds like he may not play Saturday against the Giants. Mike Catapano is making a push for the strong-side OLB job. TE Jace Amaro (groin), WR Quincy Enunwa (concussion) and WR Kyle Williams (knee) were among those who didn't practice.

How much respect has rookie Gary Sanchez gained in his first 20 games as a pro? Well, the Mariners just gave him the star treatment, as with a man on second and one out, Seattle intentionally walked Sanchez to get to Mark Teixeira. Teixeira knocked an RBI single. The Yankees lead the M's, 4-0 as Masahiro Tanaka is outpitching Hisahi Iwakuma.
