Yankees manager Joe Girardi made it very apparent he had little use for first baseman Chris Carter. The Yankees have designated Carter for assignment, calling up Tyler Austin. Austin figures to see a lot of time at first until Greg Bird comes back. Bird (ankle) is hoping to begin a new rehab soon. Carter was hitting .204. The Yankees will owe him the remainder of his $3.5M.

Tanaka edges Darvish in their first MLB duel

The first major league matchup between Japanese pitching stars Yu Darvish and Masahiro Tanaka lived up to the hype, as both starters pitched scoreless baseball before the Yankees defeated the Rangers 2-1 in 10 innings.
