ESPN Stats and Information

How Masahiro Tanaka won * 65% ground ball rate (17 ground balls out of 26 balls in play). That's his 4th-highest in a game since the start of last season, which wouldn't be notable but for this ... 3 of the 4 have come at Fenway Park * His putaway pitch was his splitter. Red Sox were 0-for-11 with 3 K and 8 ground balls vs the pitch. Opposing hitters are 1-for-25 against Tanakas's splitter in his last 4 starts (opponents were 5-7 against it on Opening Day) * Also of note: Threw 21% cutters, his 2nd-highest usage of the pitch in his career (2015 vs Rangers, 22%). Though he only threw 10 of 20 for strikes, he got 4 outs, yielded no baserunners with it.

O.J. Howard dream ends at 19. Bucs grab the top TE. Attention shifts to LB Jarrad Davis and OT Garett Bolles now, with Forrest Lamp and Charles Harris lurking.

Jets pick Jamal Adams has a few ties to the New York/New Jersey area. His father, George, was a first-round pick of the Giants in 1985. He was a running back out of Kentucky. "I'm a city guy," said Jamal, who played three years at LSU. "My mom is from Yonkers, New York, my sister is from Jersey and my pops played at the Giants. I have the right people surrounding me to help me get through my new life in the Big Apple." He and his father also had a bet on whether he'd get drafted higher than 19th, the spot George was chosen by the Giants. "He's definitely not going to pay," Jamal said, laughing. "I'll just let him continue to pay for the dinner tabs."

Seven picks until Giants. Five players they really like (Howard, Bolles, Davis, Lamp and Allen) still available. Does it pay to be patient?

Jets draft pick Jamal Adams, speaking to reporters via conference call, admitted he didn't expect to last until the sixth pick. "If I sat here and told you I wasn't surprised, I'd be lying," he said. "I was definitely surprised that I slipped. At the same time, everything happens for a reason." Adams said he got an assurance from the Jets on a recent visit. "They were definitely saying if I slip to six, there's no questions asked, they'll come and get me," he said. "They kept their word and they delivered."

We're getting into realistic range for an O.J. Howard trade up. There are 13 picks in and bunch of teams with TEs coming up.

The Yankees-Red Sox game took two hours and 21 minutes. That is not a typo.

That is what an ace performance looks like. Masahiro Tanka pitched a shutout to outduel Chris Sale, giving the Yankees a 3-0 win over the Red Sox. The Yankees took both games of this rain-shortened two-game series. They are 13-7, while the team Brian Cashman dubbed the "Golden State Warriors of baseball," the Red Sox, are 11-10.

The Jets have picked a defensive player with their first-rounder every year since 2010. QB Mark Sanchez (2009) is the last offensive player they selected in Round 1.

Jamal Adams is among the most durable safeties in this draft class. The All-American started 24 straight games to end his career in Baton Rouge.

First six picks in books. Next 3 have tight ends. Interesting to see if someone trades up for O.J. Howard or he falls out of Top 10. Giants likely monitoring.

Safety Jamal Adams has the ability to change the identity of the Jets secondary. Just look at the versatility, the natural instincts and the leadership he brings to the field. Expect Adams to play multiple roles for the New York defense.

Sometimes the board falls your way. Jamal Adams is one of the few culture-changing players in this draft, and that's exactly what the Jets need on defense.

The Jets got lucky … again. Picking sixth, they took LSU S Jamal Adams, who was expected to go as high as No. 2. Adams will help their woeful pass defense and he will upgrade their locker room because he's a terrific leader. In 2015, DL Leonard Williams fell to the Jets at 6 – and it worked out well. The big question, will they regret not taking QB Deshaun Watson? Knowing Jets' fans, they'll be second-guessing that for decades.
