Webb the QB of the future? (0:46)

The Giants saw value in quarterback Davis Webb in the third round and couldn't pass. He now is their quarterback of the future.

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan declined to comment on reports that he's shopping S Calvin Pryor and DE Sheldon Richardson. He said "a lot of things come up in conversations." Drafting two safeties, Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye, seemingly has made Pryor expendable. On Pryor, Maccagnan said, "I don't see any reason why we can't have Calvin on this team in terms of the salary cap." FS Marcus Gilchrist (knee) will begin training camp on PUP.

Love this quote from Jets WR ArDarius Stewart , a third-round pick from Alabama. Asked what he will bring to the Jets, he said, "I'm bringing a load of, you know, awesomeness. That's all I can tell you." He went on to say he's "very physical. I'm bringing a lot of physicality to the game. I'm bringing that defensive mentality to the offensive side of the ball." Stewart said he compares his style to Hines Ward.

The Jets traded their second pick in the third round (to the Bucs), ending their night. That sets up a big day on Saturday, as they have six choices: One in the fourth round (125), two in the fifth (150, 160), two in the sixth (191, 204) and one in the seventh (224). They wound up trading down twice on Day 2 -- a smart strategy. They need picks to plug holes.

The Giants called Eli Manning to tell him they were selecting a quarterback. A sort of courtesy call.

Giants add QB Davis Webb

Will he be Eli Manning's backup or eventual replacement? Mel Kiper Jr. says the Cal signal-caller has ideal size and arm strength, but also has some accuracy issues.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

This is a good spot for the Giants to look at the quarterback position with Davis Webb. Think development in a pro offense. Webb played in a Air Raid system at Cal and he won't be forced on to the field with Eli Manning as the No.1 in New York.

ESPN Stats and Information

Davis Webb had to wait for four other quarterbacks to go before getting picked, but his production speaks for itself. Few put up the numbers he did in 2016, though nobody in the country threw it more.

Jerry Reese says Davis Webb has the "best arm in the draft." He has all the tools, a high ceiling and will be a caddie to Eli Manning for a few seasons.

Mike Sando ESPN Senior Writer

Know an OC who thought highly of Davis Webb for his knowledge of the game, understanding of defenses and pocket ability. Had someone else say Webb and Jared Goff are basically the same as prospects. A GM said he'd probably take Webb over AJ McCarron if given the choice but that pre-draft talk of Webb possibly jumping into the first round was overblown.

NFL

Dan Graziano ESPN Staff Writer

Giants add QB Davis Webb, potentially setting themselves up for their post-Eli Manning future. Webb will get a couple or three years, at least, to develop under Ben McAdoo and with the help of Manning.
