Mindaugas Kuzminskas on what he gained from playing for Lithuania this summer in the European Championships: "I think this summer gave me a lot of self confidence because I was playing against players from the league (and) I think I did pretty well, we did pretty well so that gave me extra self confidence to go through the season," he said last week. Kuzminskas, who averaged 15 points and four rebounds in the Euros (re, isn't worried about possibly starting the season out of the regular rotation. He was inactive for the Knicks opener. "I think the season is long and we'll have a lot of things (that happen) during the season. What I learned from the first season is that you've got to be patient and just do your job. Your playing five minutes, your playing 7, your playing 30, you can always bring some benefits." Kuzminskas wasn't always a part of the rotation last year but produced well in stretches when he played.

Willy Hernangomez said Jeff Hornacek talked to him at shootaround about improving on the defensive end, which seems to be the reason that Hornacek kept the second-year big man out of the rotation. Hernangomez acknowledged that he needs to improve on defense and said he wasn't concerned about being out of the rotation in the Knicks' opener. "I have to wait for my moment, my chance to be on the court…. When the team needs me, I'll be there. So I just have to keep working and waiting for my moment. Just like last year: first couple of moments I didn't play a lot, but I think this year is way different. So I have to keep working." Hornacek said Enes Kanter and Kyle O'Quinn earned spots in the rotation in preseason but nothing is set in stone at the moment.
