The best thing that can be said about Jets QB Christian Hackenberg: He's getting great experience tonight. His performance ... uh, that's another story. He's 1-for-5 for 17 yards, with two sacks. In 12 preseason possessions, he has yet to generate any points.

Aaron Judge sets a new MLB single-season strikeout record with 36 consecutive games with at least one strikeout.

A sneak preview for the Jets? Quite possibly. The Christian Hackenberg-led offense has gone three and out on its first three possessions -- no first downs. With no playmakers on the perimeter, the Jets are getting suffocated at the line of scrimmage. Get used to it.

In a surprise, Christian Hackenberg is starting at quarterback for the Jets. He took a lot of first-team reps in practice on Thursday, but Todd Bowles said he didn't anticipate any lineup changes. Bowles told CBS TV before the kickoff that Josh McCown won't play tonight. What does this mean? It means Hackenberg has a great opportunity to state his case for the starting job.

The Jets' starting offense: QB Christian Hackenberg , RB Bilal Powell, FB Julian Howsare, TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, WR Robby Anderson and Jalin Marshall, OL Kelvin Beachum, James Carpenter, Wesley Johnson, Brian Winters and Brandon Shell.

Inactive tonight for the Jets: RB Matt Forte, WR Lucky Whitehead, WR Marquess Wilson, CB Xavier Coleman, LB Lorenzo Mauldin, LB Frank Beltre, WR Quincy Enunwa and WR Dan Williams. No surprises here.

A couple of challenges tonight for the Jets: The Lions play at a fast pace -- they used a lot of no-huddle last week -- so that will test the Jets' ability to communicate on defense and get lined up quickly. The offense will have to deal with crowd noise at Ford Field. It won't be regular-season loud, but it could put some stress on the offense. They practiced all week with artificial crowd noise.

Joc Pederson's playing time seems most logically in jeopardy following Curtis Granderson's acquisition by the Dodgers, as Pederson was struggling mightily, batting .156/.253/.312 in 28 games since the All-Star break. Pederson wasn't widely owned in ESPN leagues (16.9 percent), but I've often reminded how at-bats are precious in "only" leagues. NL-only owners could consider Brandon Nimmo, who should see a corresponding rise in playing time. Nimmo's year has been disappointing but it makes a lot of sense for the Mets to play him somewhat regularly to see what they've got for 2018.
