New York Teams

Some developments at Jets camp: RB Matt Forte (hamstring) is taking part in team drills for the first time since July 31. Mind you, this isn't a live practice; it's game plan-related so far. Also, all three quarterbacks have taken reps with the first-team offense. Notably not practicing: CB Morris Claiborne (undisclosed reason).

Jets RB Matt Forte, who hasn't participated in team drills since July 31 because of a pulled hamstring, is running routes in positional drills. The sense I get is that he'll be ready for Week 1.

OBJ's importance in perspective

Odell Beckham Jr. played 961 of the Giants' 1,018 offensive snaps (94.4 percent) last season, the third-highest percentage for any wide receiver in the league behind DeAndre Hopkins and teammate Sterling Shepard.

Masahiro Tanaka is not only trying to help pitch the Yankees into the playoffs, he is trying to make his opt-out decision difficult. Tanaka will start tonight after the Yankees took him off the DL following his recovery from inflammation in his right shoulder. At the end of the season, he can opt out of the final three years and $68 million of his contract. Right now, it is hard to see him doing that with an 8-10 record and a 4.92 ERA.

Manning loses if OBJ misses time

Odell Beckham Jr. hasn't complained about the hit he took Monday that caused his ankle injury, but some of his teammates have voiced their displeasure. If anyone should be upset, it should be his QB, Eli Manning.

Stats & Info

Impossible to replace Odell Beckham Jr.

OBJ accounted for 33.9 percent of his team's receiving yards last season, the highest percentage in the NFL. He could play an entire season without making a catch and still be the Giants' all-time leader in receiving yards per game, ahead of Homer Jones (66.4).

Stats & Info

Injuries huge hit to Giants' receiver depth

Odell Beckham Jr. (ankle), Brandon Marshall (shoulder) and Tavarres King (ankle) all suffered injuries in Monday's preseason contest. If OBJ and/or Marshall were to miss time, it would leave the Giants very inexperienced at the position.

Giants, Browns at opposite ends of QB consistency

Eli Manning made his first career start in Week 11 of 2004; he's been the only QB to start for the Giants since then. New York is the only team to start one QB in that span, while the Browns have started 22 since Week 11 of 2004, the most in the NFL.
