Other members of the Crimson Tide got more hype, but Dalvin Tomlinson was plenty productive in his own right. He tallied three sacks, 5.5 tackles for loss and four batted passes as a senior in 2016.

Giants plug hole with DT Dalvin Tomlinson
NFL

With the loss of Johnathan Hankins in free agency, the Giants added Alabama's Tomlinson, who had 62 tackles and three sacks as a senior.

The Giants select Alabama DT Dalvin Tomlinson in the second round (55th overall). He's the Johnathan Hankins replacement. Going to be hard to run against him and Damon Harrison.

DTs (Tomlinson, Wormley), QBs (Kizer, Webb) and LB Zach Cunningham still on board with Giants pick closing in.

Travis d'Arnaud's 449-foot homer off Max Scherzer on Friday was the longest home run hit by a Mets player at Nationals Park.

Travis D'Arnaud has the Cy Young cheat code. The Mets catcher just blasted his second bomb of the night off Nats ace Max Scherzer. D'Arnaud 5, Washington 3, top 4th.

Before suffering his season-ending injury in Week 11 against South Carolina, Marcus Maye was averaging 48 snaps over the first nine games of the season.

With Dalvin Cook and Forrest Lamp gone attention now shifts to DTs (mentioned Dalvin Tomlinson earlier) and possibly LB Zach Cunningham.

Marcus Maye is a complete safety

The Jets used their second-round pick much like their first-round pick, on a safety, and Mel Kiper Jr. says the Florida product has proven to be a steady and reliable performer in all areas on defense.

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

With the 39th pick, the Jets have selected Florida S Marcus Maye – a bit of a surprise. Well, they say there's safety in numbers; the Jets believe in a number of safeties. In Round 1, they picked Jamal Adams. This means the Jets will likely trade or release Calvin Pryor, a first-round pick in 2014. This team's like overkill. Why not help the offense?

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Jets are rebuilding the safety position in this draft. Jamal Adams on Day 1 and now Marcus Maye on Day 2. Create an identity in the secondary with physical, versatile players.

Dan Graziano ESPN Staff Writer

Jets took safeties with their first two picks - Jamal Adams in the first round and Marcus Maye of Florida in the second. This almost certainly means the end of the road in NY for 2014 first-round pick Calvin Pryor.

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

And so the Jets are on the clock at 39. There are still plenty of good players available, including RB Dalvin Cook, DE/OLB Jordan Willis and CB Quincy Wilson. Naturally, there's plenty of QB speculation because, after all, these are the Jets. To me, it would be a reach in this slot. They have many holes to fill and don't need another project quarterback. If they draft another safety, it'll be adios to Calvin Pryor.

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

Primary needs for the Jets, who have the 33rd pick: Cornerback, tight end, edge rusher … and, of course, quarterback. I think it would be a mistake to draft a quarterback in the second round for the second straight year. Enough projects already.

Expecting Giants to monitor some of the top players on board (Forrest Lamp and Dalvin Cook included). Defensive tackle also a possibility with pick 55.

ESPN Stats and Information

The Giants come into Friday night with the 55th overall pick in the draft. Recent drafts have seen a string of plug-and-play second-rounders who made an immediate impact in the Meadowlands.

The Jets (39) are among the teams trying to trade up to the Packers (33), ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. To move up six spots, they'd have to give up the equivalent of a fourth-round pick, per the trade value chart used by teams. Perhaps this is where a Sheldon Richardson trade could happen. If they trade up for a quarterback, the names to watch are DeShone Kizer, Davis Webb and Joshua Dobbs. The Jets showed a lot of interest in Webb during the run-up to the draft.

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

Amid the rush of emotions when he was drafted, Jets S Jamal Adams quickly focused on perhaps his biggest challenge -- the Patriots, namely TE Rob Gronkowski. "As soon as I got drafted, that's one of the first people I thought about, as well as the GOAT, Tom Brady," he told reporters Friday. "I have tremendous respect for those guys and that organization."

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Here's a quick way the Giants can utilize rookie tight end Evan Engram in the passing game. This is the "Levels" concept with Brandon Marshall aligned outside (Z) and Engram (Y) flexed in the slot. Engram has the ability to create leverage vs. a safety in coverage and separate at the top of the route on an inside breaking cut. A high-percentage, two-level read for QB Eli Manning to move the sticks in third down situations.
