Yesterday was a day of contrasts at One Jets Drive. Nick Mangold, a heart-and-soul player for a decade, was placed on IR, perhaps ending his Jets career. Two players who should be stepping into prominent leadership roles by virtue of their talent and experience -- Mo Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson -- came off as grumpy. Wilkerson was critical of the secondary and Richardson was surly when asked about his lack of production this season and role reduction in the last game.

Jets OC Chan Gailey, who turns 65 next month, said he'd like to return next year. He said the disappointing season hasn't affected his desire to coach. "I'm looking forward to everything that we can do to make this thing the way it needs to be," he said. Whether Todd Bowles brings him back is another story. The offense hasn't been good. "It all falls on me," Gailey said. "That's my job."
