Who will win: Seahawks or Jets?

Seattle is a road favorite, but all three personnel men polled by Mike Sando leaned toward New York. Among the reasons: The Seahawks' cross-country travel and Russell Wilson's health. Evaluators' predictions (Insider)

Keep coming back to this: Last time Giants beat a playoff team (home or away) outside their division was 2013 vs Packers. Scott Tolzien starting QB that day for GB.

For those wondering if Jeff Hornacek pays attention to analytics: he said today that a 'big key' for the Knicks this season is their effective field-goal percentage. Last year, New York ranked 28th in effective field goal percentage, which is a field goal percentage that adjusts for the value of 3-point shots.

Yoenis Cespedes up, Jonathon Niese down

Expected to exercise his opt-out clause, Cespedes figures to strike it big in a weak free-agent market this offseason. Meanwhile, Niese's value is essentially gone after an all-around terrible 2016 campaign. Bowden: FA value watch (Insider)

Nat Berhe complained of headaches and was placed in concussion protocol. Giants really short on safeties. Only Landon Collins and Andrew Adams healthy.

Here's a photo from one of the Knicks' scrimmages. Several personnel combos used today, including Rose, Porzingis and Anthony on the same side.

Brandon Jennings stole the ball from Derrick Rose and Maurice Ndour had a putback at the other to seal Jennings' team's win in a scrimmage.

CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (groin) and Eli Apple (hamstring) did work on side with trainers. Nat Berhe (n/a), Marshall Newhouse (calf) and Darian Thompson were not at practice. Giants really short on safeties. RB Rashad Jennings tried working with what appeared to be a wrap instead of a cast.

The rarity of Familia's 50-save season

Jeurys Familia is the fourth pitcher with at least 50 saves in a campaign within his first five MLB seasons, per the Elias Sports Bureau. The others:

  • Bobby Thigpen - 57 saves for White Sox in 1990 (fifth season)
  • Eric Gagne - 52 for Dodgers in 2002 (fourth season)
  • Craig Kimbrel - 50 for Braves in 2013 (fifth season)

Early look-in at Jets practice: WR Eric Decker (shoulder) is not practicing for the second straight day. CB Darrelle Revis (ankle), who sat out yesterday, looks like he'll practice. Obviously, WR/KR Jalin Marshall (shoulder) is out. New WR/KR Jeremy Ross is on the field, as is new TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins.

Orioles' win keeps Tigers, Mariners at bay

Detroit and Seattle both won on Wednesday, meaning Baltimore needed to win to keep hold on the second wild card. The O's did just that, coming back against the Blue Jays in the ninth. The Yankees and Astros are still technically in the hunt, but their odds are less than 1 percent a game away from elimination.

Jets WR Eric Decker (shoulder) is not practicing. He's at the field, but he didn't even participate in stretching.

The Jets have placed rookie DL Lawrence Thomas (torn labrum) on IR. Tough break for promising player.

Is Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. a distraction?

Odell Beckham Jr.'s sideline antics in the fourth quarter could amount to a distraction, but Giants teammates don't seem overly concerned.

Yankees are still alive, technically

After Wednesday's walk-off win, the Yanks just need to go 4-0 while the Orioles go 0-4 and the other wild-card contenders all falter as well in order to make the postseason. So you're saying there's a chance? What we learned Wednesday

Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer

The Jets are re-signing WR/PR Jeremy Ross, source confirmed. Replaces Jalin Marshall (torn labrum). CBS first reported.
