Funny line from Carmelo Anthony on the Knicks opening the season at Cleveland: "On their celebratory night, too? I think the NBA tried to give us light setup on that one. We'll be ready for that. It's a major test for us to kind of see where we're at as a team."

Courtney Lee said he expects to take a few more 3-pointers this season than the 2.7 attempts per game he's averaged over the course of his career. He believes the Knicks' quicker pace will allow for more attempts, noting that his previous clubs played at a slower pace & through the post.

Jets WR Brandon Marshall said improvement in the red zone starts with him and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick. Marshall noted that he still hasn't scored a TD: "Not a good start to the season if you have me on your fantasy team."

The Jets and former first-round pick Dee Milliner have officially parted ways. In a procedural move, they waived Milliner from their injured-reserve list. In reality, he was gone at the end of the preseason, when he was waived/injured on the final cutdown. So ends the disappointing Milliner era. Ah, but the Jets are still on the hook for his base salary -- $675,000. They already paid him a $1.5M roster bonus this year.

The Jets are concerned about WR Eric Decker, who aggravated a shoulder injury in the game. He's expected to have an MRI. Decker didn't tell the training staff about it until yesterday, according to Todd Bowles. Decker didn't practice today and wasn't seen by the media. This is an injury to watch. Sounds like it could be serious.

Jets coach Todd Bowles on whether he has any reservations about adding TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who was arrested last week for DUI: "I don't have any reservations because I haven't met him yet. As I get to know him, obviously with the situations he's been in, he's going to sink or swim on his own. We brought in a player and he's got a chance to clean his act up. We'll see what happens."

Jeff Hornacek says he has the freedom to tweak the triangle as he sees fit. "We talked a lot about it over the summer. Phil's given us the ability to run it anyway we want, how we set it up. We (have) what we feel is a good working way to run it with different options."

Carmelo Anthony appreciated Joakim Noah's intensity after his first workout with the Knicks. "He's going to bring it. If you're not on his team, you're an enemy. I think that mentality, that's going to kind of trickle down to every body else," Anthony said.

Joakim Noah had a measured response when asked about Bulls chairman Jerry Reinsdorf saying he's not a front line player anymore: "It's alright. He's entitled to his opinion." Noah added that felt it was a 'low blow' but he's proud of his time with the Bulls and has 'no regrets" about his CHI tenure.

Since Bartolo Colon only threw 47 pitches on Monday in Miami, Terry Collins told reporters Colon may come back on short rest on Friday in Philadelphia. That would put Colon on the proper rest for next Wednesday's wild-card game if Noah Syndergaard is unavailable. Syndergaard is due to pitch the regular-season finale on Sunday in Philadelphia. Syndergaard would be limited to only 25 pitches if the Mets already have clinched and then pitch the wild-card game. But he'll go far longer if the Mets need that game.
