Marcus Thames barely made the team this year. He had a stretch in August, with Alex Rodriguez out of the lineup, during which he was the best hitter on the team.

Thames was used as the designated hitter against the left-handed starters in the ALDS and showed his worth with a two-run shot in Game 3 that sent the Yankees on their way to the sweep. He hit .286 in the series.
