The Texans trimmed their roster to 75 players on Tuesday. DE Jeoffrey Pagan, who was drafted by the Texans in the sixth round of the 2014 draft, was waived with an injury settlement. LB Carlos Thompson, who was waived, played in two games for Houston last season. K Ka'imi Fairbairn, who competed with Nick Novak during training camp, was put on injured reserve. He is dealing with a quad injury.

Punter Jacob Schum will have one game to compete with Tim Masthay for the job. His agent said he's on his way from Tampa to Green Bay this evening after the Packers claimed him off waivers. He will punt in Thursday's preseason finale at Kansas City.

Drew Brees said he doesn't know the Saints' playing-time plans for Thursday night's preseason finale against the Ravens. "But I know the mindset this whole week has been that we're playing," Brees said. "We had a lot to work on obviously coming off of last week. … The more time we can get together, the better." Earlier Tuesday, coach Sean Payton suggested that the plan right now is for starters to play, including Brees. When someone pointed out to Brees that he hadn't played in a preseason finale in 10 years, he said, "Doesn't matter to me, football is football, a game's a game."

The Patriots officially placed RB Dion Lewis on the reserve/PUP list, according to ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates. This means Lewis will miss at least the first six games of the regular season, which was expected after it was learned Lewis would undergo a second surgery on his knee.
