NFL executives predict Jay Cutler's future

The clock is ticking on Jay Cutler's time in Chicago. The Bears can release the QB this offseason with minimal impact on their future cap. They don't, however, have a ready-made replacement.

Several factors can paint a picture of how well a QB is playing, but until now, the opposing defense's strength hasn't been part of the Total QBR equation. ESPN's new metrics change that.

Next up for Dee Milliner is the waiver system. All 31 other teams have the opportunity to claim him on Thursday. He's not a free agent yet.

Drew Brees said he can still close his eyes and visualize playing in San Diego 10 years later. He'll make his first trip there Sunday with the Saints and said he still has a lot of great memories. But he'll try to get all the feelings and emotions out of the way before kickoff.

Raiders offensive lineman Kelechi Osemele is excited to hit some of his ex-teammates on the Ravens on Sunday. "There's a few guys, obviously, that it's going to be fun to finish through and play against them in a game," Osemele said. "You couldn't really finish through and pancake your own teammate [in practice]."

Marcus Mariota missed both games against Houston last season. Now JJ Watt is out. So they haven't faced each other. The QB still feels some familiarity with the Texans from being in meetings last year.

With OL Denver Kirkland promoted to the active roster, the Raiders signed linebacker Darnell Sankey to the practice squad.

The Jets and former first-round pick Dee Milliner have officially parted ways. In a procedural move, they waived Milliner from their injured-reserve list. In reality, he was gone at the end of the preseason, when he was waived/injured on the final cutdown. So ends the disappointing Milliner era. Ah, but the Jets are still on the hook for his base salary -- $675,000. They already paid him a $1.5M roster bonus this year.

Four bye-week workouts for the Packers: DT Brandon Bryant (Florida Atlantic), DT Lars Koht (Florida International), DT Joey Mbu (Houston), T Lawrence Walker (Minnesota-Makato). Bryant was in camp with the Seahawks, Koht with the Broncos, Mbu with the Falcons (he actually played in two games in 2015) and Walker had a tryout with the Vikings.

The Raiders are activating OL Denver Kirkland to the active roster, giving Oakland a 53-man roster for the first time this season.

Jamaal Charles was once again listed as a limited practice participant for the Chiefs on their injury report. He could play on Sunday night against the Steelers but as cautious as they've been with him that's difficult to picture unless he gets a full week of practice.

Andre Johnson wants a win that would put the Titans at 2-2 for the first quarter of the season. Still has a lot of friends on Texans and his house in Houston.

Why has Marcus Mariota been so much better on the road than at home? "I'm not sure," left tackle Taylor Lewan said. "Because when we play at home it's not really a home game because there are just as many opponents' fans as there are… There's really no difference except for we are not flying somewhere." Went on to say any fan issues at Nissan Stadium are on the team, which must win more.
