Golden Tate said he wouldn't change anything about his slow start to the season because "it lit a fire under me." Wouldn't say if it has been the best football of his career, though.

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton got a bit philosophical today. Here's one example: "If I was trying to impress every single person that thought I was an a--hole, then I would be drained. I'm me.''

Another eyewitness testifies in the Will Smith murder trial. He said he saw the altercations leading up to the shooting. Agreed that Smith's passenger Richard Hernandez was acting "ridiculous" and being physical with his own wife, shoving her in face to move her away from him while he was arguing aggressively with Kevin O'Neal. The witness, Justin Ross, said he did not see Will Smith acting the same way toward his own wife. "Not at all," Ross said, and he said Racquel Smith had appeared to restrain Will Smith. Ross testified that he laughed at Hernandez because he found his behavior humorous as an overreaction to a fender bender. And he testified that O'Neal was the only one he heard mentioning a gun, saying, "Back off, back down, I have a gun." Ross said he was turned away when the shots were fired, though.

Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter: "I never really told anyone this, but I used a lot of New Orleans cut-ups to install our offense in Jacksonville." He studied a ton of Saints tape when he first got into the league. "I have respect for both sides of the ball but their offensive numbers speak for themselves. They're off the charts. I've admired what they've done since I came into the league."

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton on all the rumors going around about the reason he was suspended for the first series of Sunday's game: "I violated the wardrobe, and that's it. You don't have to dig into certain stories that violated curfew, was out at a club, somebody was calling the room. I still stand by coach Rivera's decision, and that's just a warning for everybody. At no point in time – or even still – do I think I'm above the law. I never thought that. I'm not that type of player.''

Redskins tight end Jordan Reed remains uncertain for Sunday. Coach Jay Gruden said it will come down to how he feels Saturday afternoon or possibly Sunday morning with his shoulder injury. Gruden said it will be the call of the doctor and Reed himself.
