Research Notes

  • Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford came away with numbers their fantasy owners enjoyed, but the duo did their damage while trailing by double digits.

  • The Lions put at least eight defenders in the box on nine of Adrian Peterson's 11 fourth-quarter rushes, after doing so on five of his first 16 runs. The strategy didn't work for Detroit, as Peterson rushed for 97 yards against such boxes in the fourth.

  • Adrian Peterson had 171 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Lions. Entering Sunday, Peterson had gained 87.9 percent of his total yards inside the tackles this season, relying on straight-ahead rushes as he recovered from an ACL injury last season. The Lions defense keyed in on this and held Peterson to 3.7 yards per rush inside the tackles, his third-lowest average of the season, but Peterson gashed the Lions for 90 yards on five rushes outside the tackles, including 85 yards before contact, both season-high totals.

  • The Lions are 0-2 this season in road games at divisional opponents (lost at Minnesota today and lost at Chicago in Week 7). Since 2001, the Lions are 3-32 in road games against the NFC North. Below are the recent trends for the Lions at Minnesota, Chicago and Green Bay.

  • Adrian Peterson has recorded his fifth season with 1,000 rushing yards for the Vikings. That breaks a tie with Robert Smith for the most such seasons in franchise history.
