Research Notes

  • Greg McElroy had a 95.9 Total QBR in 13 action plays after replacing Mark Sanchez on Sunday. It was the highest QBR by any non-starter with at least that many action plays since 2008 and the 2nd-highest over the last 5 seasons.

  • QBR: Mark Sanchez (4.4) and Ryan Lindley (3.0) had a combined QBR of 3.5 on Sunday, the lowest by a pair of starters since 2010 and tied for the 4th lowest in any game over the last 5 seasons. It also marked just the 3rd game since 2008 in which both starters had a QBR under 5.0.

  • Larry Fitzgerald caught only one of his eight targets Sunday against the Jets for 23 yards, and was missed (over or underthrown) five times. Ryan Lindley is 5-for-25 targeting Fitzgerald for 65 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions over the last three weeks. Lindley has missed on 14 of his 25 throws targeting Fitzgerald.

  • The Jets offense was much more efficient once McElroy came in the game Sunday, gaining nearly as many yards in 4 drives as it did in 10 drives with Sanchez at the helm. And it took McElroy 10 plays to put points on the board after Sanchez was shut out for 47 plays.

  • Cardinals QB Ryan Lindley had 72 pass yds on 31 attempts in Sunday's loss to the Jets...He is just the 2nd QB since the merger with fewer than 75 pass yds and at least 30 pass att in a regular season game and 1st since Seattle's Stan Gelbaugh in 1992 against the Eagles (66 pass yds, 31 pass att).

  • The Jets 7-6 win was their first in which they scored 7 points or fewer since 2003, when they beat the Steelers 6-0.

  • Should it really be a surprise that Greg McElroy came in and immediately performed better than Mark Sanchez? Other than the round they were drafted in -- Sanchez in the 1st and McElroy in the 7th -- what did Sanchez show in college to be a better prospect than McElroy?Sanchez went 2-1 against top-10 teams while McElroy went 7-2 and led his team to a national title.
