Research Notes

  • This is the 3rd season with multiple starts in Charlie Batch's Steelers career, dating to 2003. In each of the previous 2 seasons, Pittsburgh reached the Super Bowl, winning the title in 2010.

  • Charlie Batch completed 8-of-9 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown against five or more pass rushers Sunday. Batch had significantly more success Sunday than Byron Leftwich did in Week 11, the last time these teams faced.

  • Joe Flacco completed 2-of-10 passes deeper than 15 yards downfield Sunday, and has completed 22.2 percent of such throws against the Steelers this season. The Steelers defense entered the game with the lowest completion percentage allowed on such throws (31.9).Joe Flacco's average pass was thrown 12.8 yards downfield Sunday, the longest average pass length in his career, and the longest against the Steelers' defense in the Total QBR era (Since 2008).

  • Charlie Batch failed to connect on his three passes deeper than 15 yards downfield in the first half, including a missed opportunity to hit Mike Wallace in the end zone for a touchdown. Batch rebounded in the second half, completing 5-of-7 passes for 130 yards on such throws. Sunday's second half was the best Batch has looked throwing downfield while filling in for Ben Roethlisberger.

  • Ray Rice did not have an offensive touch in the fourth quarter of Sunday's loss to the Steelers after gaining 44 yards on his last two carries of the third quarter (including a 34-yd TD). The Ravens as a team ran just eight plays in the fourth quarter.Rice had just 13 touches (12 rushing, 1 receiving) for the game, his fewest since Week 1.

  • Ravens had their 12-game divisional win streak snapped, which was tied for the longest in the NFL since divisional realignment in 2002.

  • From Elias: Since the Ravens came into the league in 1996, they've played 15 games against the Steelers in which the outcome was decided by 3 points or fewer. Under that scenario, this is the closest series in the NFL since the Ravens arrived:

  • 15 of the 37 games (40.5 pct) between the Steelers and Ravens have ended with the final margin being 3 points or fewer. Another 7 of the games have been decided by 8 points or fewer:
