Research Notes

  • Matt Ryan had a 96.2 Total QBR in Sunday's win over the Giants win, his 3rd game with a QBR of at least 95.0 this season. The 3 such games are tied with Tom Brady for most in the NFL this season (NOTE: Brady plays on Sunday night).

  • Eli Manning was 8-of-16 for 128 yards and two interceptions on throws deeper than 5 yards downfield, his second-lowest number of completions in a game this season on those throws. Manning hadn't thrown multiple interceptions without a touchdown more than 5 yards downfield since Week 15 of last year, and Manning's +7 TD-Int differential on those throws was tied for fourth best in the league this season.

  • The Falcons rushed for 133 yards on 35 rushes (excluding kneeldowns), including 74 yards after contact. Sunday marked Atlanta's second-highest yards after contact total in a game this season, and the 51 yards after contact it gained in the second half alone would have ranked as fourth most. Atlanta's success on the ground was a big reason why the Falcons had the ball for 23:32 of the second half.

  • The Giants pressured Matt Ryan at about their season average, sending extra rushers on 7-of-29 dropbacks (24.1 percent compared with 23.5 percent season average). It didn't matter what the Giants did, as they had no success slowing Ryan using either method.

  • The Falcons (4-0 against NFC East and 4-0 against AFC West) are the 1st team to sweep 2 other divisions since the Titans went 4-0 against the NFC North and the AFC North in 2008.

  • * The Falcons have now swept the NFC East. The Steelers will attempt to do the same thing next against the Cowboys.

  • The Giants 34-point loss today at the hands of the Falcons was the worst shutout loss by a defending Super Bowl champion in NFL history.

  • This is the 6th-worst shutout loss for the Giants, including playoffs, and the worst since a 35-0 loss to the Cowboys in 1995
