Research Notes

  • With the Steelers leading 24-17 and 10:03 remaining in the game Antonio Brown fumbled a punt at his own 38-yard line, which the Cowboys recovered at the PIT 44 and scored a game-tying touchdown seven plays later. Pittsburgh's win probability, had Brown simply been tackled at the 38, would have been 84.4 percent. Instead their win probability dipped to 72.2 percent following the fumble, and 51.2 percent following the touchdown.

  • Tony Romo picked on the Steelers cornerbacks without Ike Taylor, attempting 29-of-42 (69.0 percent) passes outside the painted field numbers, his highest percentage of passes outside the numbers this season. Romo completed 21-of-29 (72.4 percent) passes on such throws for 234 yards a touchdown. The Steelers defense has allowed four touchdowns outside the numbers without Taylor in the last two weeks.

  • Felix Jones and DeMarco Murray combined for 91 yards on 17 rushes (5.4 yards per rush) and established enough of a presence in the running game to open up play action for Tony Romo.
